Illustration Ale releasing Dec. 5

Written by Bob Batz Jr. on

The release party for this year's Illustration Ale party is on ... for Dec. 5.

Originally to be released in August, this is the third edition of the brew made by East End Brewing Co. that supports Downtown's ToonSeum and celebrates local artists.

Six artists -- Jessica Heberle, Ilene Winn-Lederer, Sarah Miller, Lizzee Solomon, strawberryluna and Nora Thompson -- did the labels, above, for this year's batch, which is described as a bottle-conditioned dark malty ale, brewed with a farmhouse ale yeast which adds spice and nuance.

Only 1,600 750-milliliter bottles were filled. Many of those could be snapped up at the release party, which starts at 7 p.m. at the museum, at 945 Liberty Ave.

For $25, attendees get to sample the brew and get one bottle to keep. Current and past artists will be on hand and can even autograph bottles. Enlarged, signed prints of the labels themselves may be available, too. And guests also can look around the museum, of course.

You can get tickets for the event here.

Afterwards, you'll be able to get bottles of the ale for $11 each at East End Brewing in Larimer or at its shop at the Pittsburgh Public Market in the Strip District.
