Beer

It's pouring at East End's new place

EastEndGrowlerRoomLittle breweries grow up so fast.

It seems like just yesterday, Scott Smith started brewing beer at his one-man East End Brewing Co. at one end of a long red-brick warehouse on Susquehanna Street in Homewood. He tapped the first kegs there in late December 2004.

Today, his East End Brewing Co. starts pouring beer at its new brewery in Larimer, at 147 Julius St.

No more Growler Hours at the old space at Susquehanna Street in Homewood.

But hours are expanded for getting your growler filled in the nice new Growler Room starting today:

  • 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday thru Friday
  • Noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays and
  • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday

This evening you can get draft Snow Melt Winter Ale and seven other brews, plus ginger ale and root beer, as well as two brews in bottles to go.

I can’t wait to see the new space myself, if I can find it.

I love that while Mr. Smith intends the new brewery to have a permanent sign, he’s marking today’s opening (opening in the building; that is, the entrance), besides with a temporary banner, the way he did at the old space: EastEnddoor

By putting out a keg.
