Tea for grown-ups

Nothing warms the body and soul like a nice cup of tea. And perhaps nobody celebrates the ancient Chinese beverage better than the folks at Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, which is famous for its afternoon high teas. Last year, the luxury chain initiated its “Get Steeped” program to pay tribute to all things tea, with special events at its worldwide properties.

This year, they’ve expanded the celebration to an entire month of festivi“teas.” Included are sommelier-led tastings, fancy hat competitions, tea-themed spa treatments and etiquette events.

In Pittsburgh, the tea party will kick off on Sat., Nov. 3, at Andys with, what else?, a cocktail.  Available in the lobby bar through the end of November, the Tea Time Cocktail is an adult take-off on the half lemonade, half iced tea drink Arnold Palmer made famous in the late ‘60s. This version ($8)  is made with Absolut Wild Tea Vodka, fresh lemon juice, Willow Stream Tea-infused simple syrup, bitters and a splash of homemade iced tea.

Tea just isn’t tea unless it’s accompanied by a snack, so guests who purchase the cocktail on Nov. 3 will receive a selection of Pastry Chef James Wroblewski’s tea scones and treats.

For other tea-related events, visit Fairmont Get Steeped.
