Limited-edition ketchup

Heinz Ketchup Blended with Real Jalapeno
If you're from Pittsburgh, there's only one ketchup you'd ever consider slathering on a hamburger or hot dog: the slightly sweet, tomato-y version that's been produced by the H. J. Heinz Company since 1869.

But what if you like your condiments spicy?

You're in luck, at least through Dec. 7, if you have access to the company's Facebook page.

There, for $9 while supplies last, you can order three bottles of Heinz's new Limited Edition Ketchup Blended with Real Jalapeno. Offering a bit more kick than the original recipe, it comes in the iconic 14-ounce glass bottle with a dark-green label. The price includes delivery to any address in the U.S., as well as to U.S. military bases, so the soldier in your life can enjoy it as a stocking stuffer, too.

Whether or not flavored ketchups is a hot culinary trend remains to be seen. But last year, if you recall, the company introduced ketchup made with balsamic vinegar, its first new flavor in more than 10 years (and an immediate hit with my ketchup-loving family).

Not on Facebook? No worries. But you will have to wait.  The product won't be available at select retailers, including Walmart and Target, until January 2013.
