Retro, well-named candy
Spotted at Nicholas Coffee Co. this morning: Old-school candy brands, including this one, which, despite the boom in such nostalgiac edibles, I hadn't seen for years.
I obviously love the name.
Turns out, Runk Candy Co. of Cincinnati just started making BB Bats this spring, having acquired the name and the equipment from Warrell, which made them for a time in York, Pa.
According to a history Runk pieced together, the taffy-on-a-stick -- in vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and banana flavors -- originally was made in 1924 by Fair Play Caramel Co. in Johnson City, N.Y. They also made the taffy-not-on-a-stick Kits, which Runk also has revived.
