Steak sandwich at Primanti Bros.

The sandwich: Pastrami and cheese
The place: Primanti Bros. in the Strip
The skinny: We are kicking off some sandwich porn with the Pittsburgh icon. Thick-cut bread stacked with meat, cheese, slaw, fries and tomato comprises a classic.
A refresher on the sandwich story: In the '30s, Joe Primanti ran a cart to feed truckers delivering to the Strip. When he expanded to a location on 18th and Smallman, his brothers and nephew joined him to help run the restaurant.
It wasn't until the '40's that slaw and french fries were added to the sandwich, a design change that allowed workers to eat it with one hand. The restaurant was sold in the 70's to Jim Patrinos, whose family has steered the restaurant's expansion to eighteen locations in this area and three in Florida.
The sandwich was nominated by Men's Health as the manliest in America last year.
